Each team member introduced themselves2 Goals & Strategies defined and/or blended Tom moderated as the committee members identified goals, and strategies. Team members, using the handouts from Session III, collectively and aloud, re-defined goals and strategies. By eliminating and/or blending action items, strategies, cluster groups, and/or other goals the process was completed per the attached DRAFT #1 Y&F Strategies.3. Wrap-up / Feedback It was agreed that Sheryl Barbich would take notes and forward them to Betty for the minutes and DRAFT #1 of the Y&F Vision Forces Strategies. DRAFT # 1 - STRATEGIES Our Vision for the Youth and Family for Greater Bakersfield is A safe and enriching community known as a great place to raise a family. Strategies: 1.1 Involve youth in re-developing blighted neighborhoods 1.2 Provide safer community spaces (for example: by ensuring all streets, parks, shopping centers and other public spaces are clean, well lit and landscaped) 1.3 Improve neighborhood pride and image 1.4 Provide crime free communities 1.5 Get all media together to develop a commitment to make positive news a priority 1.8 Provide resources for teens who are mentally ill and/or chemically dependent A community whose youth are actively engaged in the development of the community. Strategies: 2.1 Offer leadership training for High School students (for example: Leadership Bakersfield) 2.2 Promote and support youth councils throughout the community 2.3 Provide opportunities for our youth so that they remain an integral part of the community A community that values and provides opportunities for senior citizens. Strategies: 3.1 Market the resources we have in our Senior Citizens 3.2 Expand job training/placement services/programs for seniors (PT/FT) 3.3 Provide a program for seniors to mentor youth. A model community for quality, affordable childcare. Strategies: 4.1 Increase pay for childcare providers so that it becomes a viable form of employment 4.2 Incentives for childcare providers 4.3 Expand on-site, affordable childcare centers at large government and private businesses/agencies 4.4 Provide incentives for businesses to provide child care benefits A community with affordable, educational, cultural, social and recreational activities that engage youth of all ages. Strategies: 5.1 Schools will be open 7 a.m.-7 p.m. seven days a week, year round. 5.2 An after school program in every school that is free 5.3 Coordinate community-wide events at area parks, schools, etc. on a very frequent basis (cultural fairs, recreation fairs, job fairs, fishing derbies, etc.) 5.4 Create a streamlined universal insurance/liability plan for schools, churches, etc. 5.5 Provide foster youths exiting the system, scholarships, housing, etc. to encourage higher education as well as technical schools 5.6 Create more magnet schools 5.7 Use service organizations to adopt schools, promote literacy programs, create reading incentives, and promote libraries safe childrens areas A community where internships and adult mentoring are provided for our youth.
